Vietnam is in the top 4 footwear producers in terms of volume worldwide (following China, India and Brazil), top 3 in terms of value (behind China and Italy). Vietnam footwear has been exported to 50 countries. Footwear exports to the US, EU and Japan continuously grew in terms of market share, ranking 2nd behind China. Total export revenue reach $10 billion per annum. Under the effect of FTAs Vietnam's footwear industry is projected to enjoy 15-20% annual growth, and by 2020, exports value may hit over US$15 billion. Vietnam’s footwear industry has 812 enterprises and more than 624,000 employees; 70% of big exporting enterprises are joint ventures or 100% foreign capital. 90% of Vietnam’s footwear products are processed products that are dependent on imported technical devices, technology, design, raw materials and accessories. The industry continues to focus on boosting export growth, increasing the localization ratio to 65 - 70%, setting up material zones to meet production needs, improving the quality of human resources, increasing productivity, turning out high quality products, ensuring social security for workers, and creating a safe production environment toward sustainability. The strategic products are shoes and sandals. The industry also sets priority to sneakers, canvas shoes and fashion leather footwear.
